Raymond Colton harbors resentment towards Rebecca for abandoning him to pursue her dreams of life in the big city. Now she's back and more beautiful than ever. But Raymond's heart has been broken more than once and risking more heartache with Rebecca isn't a gamble he's willing to take.
When Rebecca agrees to use her marketing expertise to help Raymond's father salvage his failing family business--Colton's Ice Creamery--she and Raymond are thrown together, and old flames are ignited. Can they heal the wounds from their past and embrace the possibility of a brighter tomorrow?

TEASER
“Raymond has returned and is now standing silhouetted in the door like some Egyptian pharaoh, his perfect physique clearly outlined before he steps into the office with a pizza box.
“Woman, don’t you ever take a break?”
“Not always.” I stand and massage the ache I feel in my lower back from sitting too long.
“My back and shoulders let me know when it’s time to stop.”
“Here, let me help with that.” Clearing the desk, he sets the box down. Turning me around, he massages my tense shoulders. “I don’t want you falling apart when we’re just getting started. I’ve got to take care of the talent.”
“Thanks, that really hits the spot.” I should stop him, but I stay silent as his strong hands remove the tension from my shoulders. I’ve missed his touch, but as good as it feels, I force myself to turn around and break the contact. This is an even bigger mistake because now we are standing close enough to kiss.”

But as Brandon begins to discover feelings for Ally, a tragedy occurs that changes their lives. And now, he’ll spend the rest of the year sorting through his complicated feelings and his uncertain relationship with Ally...all while keeping his grades up. Character Interview

Hi Brandon! How are you doing today?
I’m good! Just hanging out. Although, I could really use a slice of pizza. Plain cheese with a shaker full of red pepper flakes right beside my plate...
Dang, I gotta call Josh after this and go grab a bite. Just talking about pizza is making my stomach growl.
Tell us 3 things about yourself that the readers do not know about.
1. My parents are huge Elvis Presley fans so I grew up listening to his music. I can even do a pretty good imitation of his singing voice.
2. I always wished I was handier. My buddy Josh can build a car from scratch and I can barely hammer a nail into a wall without bending it.
3. Once when we were nine years old, Josh dared me and Ally to kiss. But before our lips touched, I chickened out and she ended up kissing me on the cheek. We lost the dare and had to buy Josh something from the ice cream man. And Ally seemed really mad about it at the time. Although I’m not sure why.
What are your future plans?
I know I wanna go to college after high school somewhere great like Harvard or Stanford, but I don’t know if I’m good enough. I mean, look at some of my friends like Ally or Amy or Rachel. Those guys are the real brains in our class.
But wherever I go, I think I wanna study English. I want to be a writer. I know that much.
If you had a free day with no responsibilities and you are only the mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?
I’ve never really had to chance to travel much. Unless you count all the times we drove to my Auntie Janet’s house in L.A., which I don’t...
So I think I’d want to travel. Just get into my car and drive for a while. There’s a lot of places I’ve never been just in California alone. I’d love to drive out to the mountains and get a whiff of the fresh air. Or maybe out to the desert to and see all the different colors of the sky.
But if there was one place I’d really like to visit, it would be San Francisco. I love city life. I love that it’s always cool there but not snowy. And there’s something about it that just speaks to me. It’s probably the writer in me, but it feels that San Francisco always has a story to tell and I wanna hear it. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to add mine to it.
And right now, both of their baseball teams are good, so there’s that...
If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?
Wow. That’s a tough question. I can’t pick just one so I’ll pick two.
I’d hang with Magic Johnson and have him give me basketball lessons. I want to learn to see the game the way he does. It’s like he’s got eyes in the back of his head out there!
And I’d love to meet Steven Spielberg and see how a great storyteller tells his stories. His movies aren’t just movies, they’re experiences.
And maybe Cindy Crawford because...well, she’s Cindy Crawford...
What is your idea of perfect happiness? And, what is your current state of mind?
Besides Cindy Crawford, you mean? Sorry, just kidding...
I don’t know. I guess I’m okay. I mean, things aren’t too bad. Things could always be better. Things could be more clear and less confusing. She could be more clear and less confusing...
I think a perfect day would be sharing a tub of popcorn with someone special at a drive-in movie. We could huddle together with a nice toasty blanket wrapped around us. And after that, we could drive out to the mountains and look up at the stars.
Lastly, do you have any advice for todays teenagers from your experience?
Well, since I still am a teenager, I’m not sure what I can offer. I mean, I’m still trying to figure it all out too, you know?
But someone once told me that I should never be afraid to give my best effort. It doesn’t matter what it is, whether it’s school or sports. Prepare, practice, and push forward. Sometimes things will work out and sometimes they won’t, but at least you’ll learn what it takes to get to where you wanna go.

How would you react if given only 21 days to live?
21 Days: The Random Thoughts of a Brother in Mourning is just that, random thoughts about death, faith, and God.
21 Days is the chronological countdown to David's death as described by his brother, Donald. His written thoughts document what was happening to his brother David as he quickly succumbed to esophageal cancer. Donald describes his emotional turmoil in dealing with his brother's untimely and unstoppable death. He asks a powerful, rhetorical question that makes everyone ponder their mortality. What would you do if doctors told you, you or a loved one only have twenty-one days to live? How would you react? Donald reacted by questioning his faith in God and God's power over cancer during this countdown.

About the Author

Donald R. Dragovich has always used writing as a way to express himself and his feelings. Writing was easy and seemed effortlessly for Mr. Dragovich.
For his education, he has an associate degree in advertising technology, and in his work experience, he is a NACE certified coatings inspector where he writes detailed and descriptive reports daily which has both helped hone and define his writing skills. Just like with his daily work reports, Mr. Dragovich’s writing captures the readers’ attention and brings them into his mind as if they are there experiencing what he experiences. Through his writing, Donald hopes to make the readers feel what he feels, think the way he thinks, and react the way he reacts. Donald has been married for thirty-three years, has three adult children (a deceased infant son), and three grandchildren. His family is his life. He writes about his personal family experiences during tragic and faith challenging events. The life tragedies that Donald has endured are ones that everyone can relate to and many may have experienced, as well. Mr. Dragovich uses his writing as a coping mechanism during these tragic times, and ultimately as an inspiration for others. “Forever in our Hearts” is a song that Mr. Dragovich wrote after the death of his infant son, Donald, Jr. Mr. Dragovich’s brother David, composed the music, performed the song and recorded it. The song was used at infant death counseling events as a theme song in Youngstown, Ohio. Donald’s writing is multifaceted as he has written short stories, poems, and a children’s book. Donald also has a blog, we-the-people-have-spoken.net, where he writes about current events. His ultimate goal is to share his experiences with others and to inspire, help, and educate people who read his writing.

Five Things to do after you’ve finished your novel

1. Celebrate, But Not Too Long

Congratulations! You just finished working on your book. And all it’s cost you is some early mornings, a lot of late nights, and a few thousand brain cells. Now stop and do something else for a while.
Like a fine wine, you and your book need time to breathe. When you’re writing you’re creating plot lines, character arcs, and plot twists. That’s why an author needs to step away after it’s done. It takes time to gain some perspective on what did or didn’t work in the book. Maybe a character needs reworking. Maybe a plotline needs clarification. But you won’t really know until you step away from it for a little while.

The amount of time away varies for the writer. For me, I need at least a week. Any less, I feel that I’m still too close to it. Any more, I feel like I’m abandoning it. But a good amount of time is necessary.

2. Reading Is Fundamental

After enough time has passed, it’s time to read your book. And I like to approach reading my book like its somebody else’s work. I see what I like, what I don’t, and take notes the way a teacher would. This is another way for me to distance myself from my work. Taking notes gives me some objectivity that my book needs. I can be honest about what the story needs and what I could do to make it better.

But it’s not all negative. This is also the time to enjoy reading what you’ve written. Laugh at what’s funny. Grab a tissue when the tears fall. Visualize the world that you’ve created in your mind’s eye and live in it for a bit. You’ve put in the time, admire your handiwork.

3. Kill Your Darlings

Okay, you’ve laughed and cried as you read your story. You’ve written great lines of dialogue and scenes that you love. It’s funny, witty and everything good writing should be.

Then you find that something that doesn’t quite work. Maybe a scene slows the momentum of the story or stops it cold. Maybe you find that a character said or did something that doesn’t feel true to who they are.

It’s time to kill your darlings.

This is always the hardest part of writing, but editing is the most necessary. Your book isn’t about the one great scene or line, it’s about how that scene or line works in the entirety of the book. Some scenes will be shortened for pacing and others lengthened to emphasize their impact. Some characters will be reworked, re-imagined, or dropped. But that’s all part of the process.

4. Build and Expand

After you’ve cut the excessive stuff, it’s time to look at the impactful sections in your manuscript. These are the scenes that make or break your book. So make them count.

As the writer, you have to make these moments as visceral as possible. Take your time here. Use all your senses. Can readers see it come towards them? Do they hear the crashes or silences? Can they taste it on their lips, smell it wafting through the air, and feel it in their bones?

This is where I have the most fun as a writer. I get to build and expand the depths of my characters. Because that’s when readers are truly engrossed in your work.

5. Won’t You Please, Please Help Me?

Writing is a solitary process. But because it is, no matter how much self-editing you do, there will come a time when you can’t see the forest for the trees.

That’s when you seek help. Getting feedback is key to taking your book to the next level. Look to family and friends for their input. If you’re lucky, they are writers too and aren’t afraid to give you their honest opinion.

If your mom and dad think everything you do is perfect, look to beta readers and content editors. If cost is an issue, look to writer’s groups that will exchange manuscripts. You can offer feedback and learn a little about another writer’s style and voice that could help you with your own.

But getting feedback is key. As a writer, you have to let go and let someone else see your story for what it is. Constructive criticism helps make your book the best that it can be. And that is what any writer wants in the end.

Membership is inherited and it turns out my late mother was one of them. Who knew? Up until now, magic hasn’t really been my thing. But a girl can fake it, am I right?

Excerpt:
I shake myself from the thoughts and look up at the handsome man who wants to spend time with me. So far, what I know about Ethan is that he’s sweet and that he has a sister he loves, and he’s not old fashioned with the rules between the supernatural races.
That and he’s sexy as hell.
“Yes,” I say as I slide my arm through his. “Let’s go eat.”
He pulls me a little closer and the two of us walk arm in arm down the hallway.
Being this close to him sends shivers down my spine. He smells clean, like soap mixed with something else. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s my new favorite scent.
When we arrive in the cafeteria, he releases my arm so we can grab some snacks. I’m surprised how much I want to grab hold of him and feel his touch on me again. There’s a part of me that wants to press back into him, but I resist.
Where breakfast had been set up there’s now a spread of fresh fruit, granola bars, and various snack foods. I had no idea they kept this stocked round the clock.
I grab an apple and a packet of almonds. Ethan has a plate full of food again. We find a seat in the nearly empty cafeteria and eat and talk for almost two hours.
Conversation with Ethan is effortless and I’m sad when it’s time to head to our next class.
“We should do this again,” he says as we clean up.
“Yes, please,” I say. I don’t say all the other things I want to do to him. Ethan is officially the best part of Bloodfire Academy. Who cares if there’s a lunatic mage girl who wants to destroy me?
The hottest shifter in school wants to spend more time with me. Which means, I definitely have to survive the sparring thing tonight.

The long-requested sequel to Maddie James' first published novel, Roses & Rawhide is now available!

Readers wanted to know...
What happened to Jillie and Mack's relationship at the end of Roses & Rawhide?
Why did Jillie go back to Kentucky?
Will they get back together? What's their story?

While Kim Martin and Thad Winchester find their happily-ever-after in Roses & Rawhide, their best friends, Jillie Abernathy and Mack Montgomery, end their sleeping bag sharing relationship during the rugged, two-week pack trip into the Colorado San Juan mountains.
But when Kim and Thad host their wedding at Thad's Colorado ranch a few months later, Mack and Jillie must come face-to-face with reality--and with each other. She's the maid of honor. He's the best man. Both are harboring secrets that could break a potential future relationship if they both keep avoiding telling the truth.
Can they reveal those secrets to each other? And if so, can they get past the withheld truths to plan a future together?

Excerpt
Jillie glanced up from the pot of chili and froze. The back door softly closed, and Mack pushed into the mudroom. She watched as he parked his hat on the bench beside the back door and hung his coat next to hers in the closet, then strolled into the kitchen.
This feels a little too cozy. “What the hell?” she said. “I thought you’d gone.”
He tossed her a sarcastic grin as he approached the kitchen island. “Nope. I’m here. At least for the night. Guess we both need to get used to it.”
“Why?”
“Weather and other stuff.”
“Is it that bad?”
He ignored her. “Did you get a nap?”
“Yes.”
“Good. By the way, I’m still on babysitting duty,” he added.
“Oh my God, Mack, I can manage.” Jillie bristled and narrowed her gaze. “I don’t need a sitter.”
“I’m still here anyway.”
“Well that’s ridiculous.” She turned back to the chili. But the smirky smile he gave her right before she did—one that half crossed over into dangerous sexy waters—unnerved her a bit. Flustered, Jillie dropped the ladle into the chili. The hot soup splashed onto the back of her hand and she jerked away. “Crap. Ouch!”
She snagged Mack’s gaze as he stepped forward. His intense glare unnerved her so much that she didn’t see him reaching for her hand.
“You lost the spoon,” Mack said. His fingers were still cold from working outside. He lightly touched a knuckle. “You okay? Those knuckles look red already.”
And they stung. She pulled back sharply, but not completely out of his grasp. “Um. Yeah. I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not.” He tugged her closer, his blue eyes dancing. She locked into his gaze and he held her there for a few seconds, while her heart did a little flip-flop. Leaning in, he lifted her hand to his lips, and licked off the chili spatter off.
One. Knuckle. At. A. Time.
Mesmerized by the action, all Jillie could do was stand there and let him. His tongue dragging over her skin sent a revolving skitter of desire through her body and jump-started the months-buried yearning for him in her heart—and elsewhere. Every delicate nerve ending connected to her hands tingled with anticipation. Where else might he lick?
Her lips?
Neck?
Um…?
Stunned at the heat of his touch, Jillie attempted to stifle the shiver racing up her spine and keep her hand from shaking. She wasn’t successful. After what seemed a suspended moment in time, he stopped, and his gaze drifted up to meet hers.
Those blue eyes twinkled back. She trembled a little inside while her tongue made a quick swipe over her suddenly parched lower lip. Mack’s gaze immediately dropped to her mouth, and she willed down the flipping butterflies in her stomach.
She stepped back and jerked her hand away.
